 A six-year-old girl dubbed 'Mowgli' and her pet dog who spent 10 days lost in the woods with bears and wolves have been honoured with a statue.Karina Chikitova survived for almost a fortnight to be nicknamed after the Jungle Book hero.

At the time she was four years old, and wandered lost with pet Naida in the Siberian wilderness where wild bears and wolves are an ever-present threat to life.

Then a puppy, Naida cuddled close to the little girl in near freezing temperatures to keep her warm - and now their heroic ordeal has been preserved for posterity.
