Restoration Campaign Organisation, a Peoples Democratic Party group has claimed that the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva, did not expect to win the governorship elections because he went clubbing and drinking right after ..
A statement issued by the Director of Publicity of the PDP campaign organisation, Jonathan Obuebite, said,

"Sylva after losing the election went clubbing and drinking Hennessy with friends in all the three clubs he attended yesterday (Sunday). How can a man who just lost election attend a club if he was expecting to win?

"He was buying drinks for everybody. So many Bayelsans found his behaviour strange, particularly after participating in an election in which no less than fourteen deaths were recorded and several others nursing various life threatening injuries", Obuebite stated.

Also while speaking with online news publishers yesterday in Lagos, the EFCC boss, Mr Ibrahim Magu also explained why they are yet to arrest the immediate former president of Nigeria saying no document has been traced to Jonathan giving any approval for the disbursement of the money for any purpose other than arms purchase.

He said that all those questioned so far in connection with the money were people who disbursed or collected it for reasons other than the purchase of arms and ammunition.

"All approvals by former president Jonathan did not mention that it was for political purposes. All the memos approved by him were for the purchase of arms," he said.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama says the Federal government is in the talks with the Swiss government for the release of another $300 million Abacha loot stashed in some Swiss banks. Onyeama said this while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 22nd regular course of Foreign Service Academy in Abuja yesterday January 11th.

"Nigeria recently recovered a huge amount of money from the government of Switzerland. I met with Switzerland representatives last week to work out the modalities for the recovering of these funds. So far Nigeria has recovered over $700 million, and there are ongoing negotiations on how that money would be applied. Discussion is also ongoing to recover another $300 million."he said

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has said the commission will not release detained spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, until he returns the N400m he allegedly received from embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

Ibrahim Magu, the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, said Metuh would have been released but he is unwilling to return the funds. He also denied claims the commission was on a witchhunt of leaders of the opposition PDP after its continued detention of Metuh and the release of Jafaru Isa, an All Progressives Congress chieftain. Magu who spoke in Lagos with online media publishers explaining said;

"From the records, Metuh got over N400 million, he has not said anything because we need the public money to be returned so that it's going to be used for public good. Continue...

"Also Jafaru Isa, what Dasuki gave him was N170 million. He also agreed…of course he has collected that money, he was with us for 4-5 days and then he made a deposit of N100 million and entered an undertaking to bring the rest. That does not mean we will not prosecute him."

"But this other Metuh, instead of going for a refund, he has admitted he collected money…. so instead of… he still has the money because the money is too much. Instead of returning the money, he preferred to go on strike."‎

Mr. Isa, a former military governor of Kaduna State, was arrested last Wednesday by EFCC operatives for allegedly receiving N170 million from the Dasuki.

Mr. Metuh, the Spokesperson of the PDP, has been in EFCC custody since January 5‎.

Acting Chairman of EFCC Ibrahim Magu says the agency is yet to arrest former President Goodluck Jonathan because no document has been traced to Jonathan giving any approval for the disbursement of the money for any purpose other than arms purchase.

Speaking at a meeting he had with online publishers in Lagos yesterday January 11th, Magu said all those that have been arrested and questioned in connection with the arms deal scandal were people who disbursed or collected money for reasons other than the purchase of arms and ammunition. "All approvals by former president Jonathan did not mention that it was for political purposes" he said.
