The Iranian government says it has employed all her diplomatic channels including warning the Nigerian government to release the leader of the Shia Muslim group in Nigeria Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky. He was arrested alongside other members of his group following a clash with the Nigerian army in Zaria, Kaduna state on Saturday December 12th. Over 60 people died in the fracas.


"We have used all those channels to warn them [Nigeria] regarding this issue. So hopefully the government... would adopt wise action given the sensitive situation," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hoseyn Jaberi-Ansari told reporters in the capital, Tehran today January 4th.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has sworn in the First Female Chief Judge of Rivers State Justice Daisy Wotube Okocha at a ceremony that took place at the state government house today January 4th. Justice Okocha has been the state Acting Chief Judge since June 1, 2015.

FC Barcelona has received the support of the fans at the start of 2016 in their traditional open door training session before the arrival of the Three Kings on 6 January, an important date in Catalonia when children receive their seasonal presents. Luis Enrique's squad carried out a session in preparation for a week in which they have a Copa del Rey game against Espanyol and a league game against Granada. They were not alone as more than 10,000 fans turned up at the Miniestadi to follow the first team's work out.

The entire available Barça squad was on show with Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal enjoying their newly acquired status as officially registered FC Barcelona players, meaning they could make their debuts in the cup clash with city rivals Espanyol on Wednesday 6 January, a game that kicks off at Camp Nou at 8.30pm CET. The only absentees were long term injury victim Rafinha and midfielder Sergi Roberto who trained on his own.

Cup game on the horizon

The 22 available players came out on to the field at the Miniestadi at 11.25 CET and started the session with a warm up lap of the stadium. Then the players divided themselves into two groups to warm up with ball exercises. One group was formed by Mathieu, Alba, Rakitic, Douglas, Mascherano, Claudio Bravo, Messi, Adriano, Bartra, Alves and Neymar, the other by Iniesta, Suárez, Sandro, Munir, Ter Stegen, Masip, Vermaelen, Arda Turan, Aleix Vidal, Piqué and Sergio.

An exercise on ball retention was followed by the players who started against Espanyol continuing with a recovery session. Those who did not start in the derby on Saturday took part in a training match in which goals from Arda Turan, Bartra and Mathieu were the highlights. The squad then kicked football into the crowd as gifts for the waiting fans and also signed autographs and had their pictures taken as they left at the end of the session.

The drama in this 2016 no be small thing. Few days after a white woman released photos claiming she has two children for Super Eagles player Ideye Brown (read here), his wife and mother of his sons, Damka Ideye took to her Instagram page to react to the report. See what she wrote after the cut


"Dear All, my attention was drawn to this account on IG,which has for the last few weeks been used for the single purpose of discrediting me and my family. The acct claims my husband has 2 children he fathered in Kiev,Ukraine. It claims the boy is 3 years old and alleges 'my husband hasn't come to see him' hence, the campaign.Then goes on to claim they have a girl together who just turned 1 on Dec 20th,2015, which apparently also,he's yet to 'see' Hmmmm..💭 If there is a legitimate claim,am sure this beautiful,educated,social media savvy person,would have long taken a legal approach...I share this because perhaps they will also attempt to contact some of our good friends to further whatever agenda they have, also, because I've spent a good part of my adult life so far,advocating for people's rights and educating my peers, and younger people to never stay SILENT in the face of any form of bullying or harassment and therefore will not shy away from doing same for myself. Where there are blessings, there are also curses lingering to weave their way in, if you allow it. The hate is real people(even from those you don't know)but so is the LOVE❤️and that is where I choose to focus.My only prayer and wish for he/she/they is that, they "find some peace of mind" as we all prepare to usher in a wonderful new year in a few days☺️❤️✌🏾️"

Campbell, commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan, recently held a press conference in which he told reporters that he hoped the president would not reduce the number of U.S. troops there from 9,800 to 5,500 by the end of 2016. "My intent would be to keep them for as long as I can," he said. What the general didn't say is what he hoped he'd be able to accomplish by keeping those 4,300 troops that he couldn't without them.
