President Muhammadu Buhari today met with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Mrs Christine Lagarde during an audience with IMF Team at the State in Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari said Tuesday in Abuja that his administration will look inwards, enforce regulations to stop financial leakages and adopt global best practices in generating more revenue to mitigate the effect of dwindling oil prices on the Nigerian economy.

Receiving the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ms Christine Lagarde at the Presidential Villa, President Buhari said that his administration will also enforce greater discipline, probity and accountability in all revenue generating agencies of the Federal Government.

"We have just come out of budget discussions after many weeks of taking into consideration the many needs of the country, and the down turn of the economy with falling oil prices and the negative economic forecasts.

"We are working very hard and with the budget as our way forward, we will do our best to ensure that our country survives the current economic downturn.

"We have also told all heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government that on our watch, they will fully account for all funds that get into their coffers," President Buhari told Ms Lagarde.

The President said that the Federal Government was reviewing its operational costs and had directed all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies to cut down on their overhead costs.
President Buhari said the Federal Government will welcome the technical support and expertise of the IMF for its plans to diversify the Nigerian economy and further unleash its growth potentials.

In her remarks, Ms Lagarde said that the IMF will be willing to assist the Federal Government in plugging revenue leakages, tracing stolen funds and restructuring its tax system.
She said that Nigeria had all the potentials to overcome the current economic challenge of falling commodity prices without resorting to the IMF for financial support.

A group of young Saudi hackers took down the Saudi Defense Ministry's website in protest over the execution of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, Iran's Fars news agency reported.

The cyber-attack was carried out on Sunday night by a group of young Saudis called "Brave Youth Fighting Religious Taboos" and remained inaccessible for several hours.

The hackers said their attack on the Saudi Defense Ministry's website was meant as retribution for the execution of Sheikh Nimr by the Riyadh government.

"We will continue defending the religious sanctities and also targeting the enemies and oppressors involved in the killing of the freedom-seekers and revolutionaries," the hackers said in a statement issued after hacking the website.

In a move that has been hailed by many as resilient and triumphant in the fight against terrorism, Garissa University College reopened Monday, January 4, nine months after it was closed down following a terrorist attack by Al-Shabaab that resulted in the deaths of 148 people, most of them students.

A memo to staff and students stated that an academic board meeting would take place following the reopening. Both academic and non academic staff were asked to report back on Wednesday.

109 students who survived the attack will have their fees paid for a year by the French government. They will also be given a living allowance, according to a statement by the French Embassy back in November 17.

The university was reopened amidst heightened security, as the varsity's staff assembled for the first staff meeting. During the low-key ceremony at the institution, the college principal, Prof Ahmed Osman Warfa, said most of the staff had reported back to work.

The campus, a constituent college of the Eldoret-based Moi University, was the scene of a 10-hour siege when Al-Shabaab gunmen stormed it in the early hours of April 2, 2015.

Since then, a police post has been set up within the campus to increase security, and Prof Warfa said the government would spend Sh230 million to erect a permanent perimeter fence equipped with a closed-circuit TV (CCTV) monitoring unit in the coming months.

Survivors of the battle of Ramadi have revealed the devastation left behind after Iraqi government forces reclaimed the city from ISIS militants last week.

The provincial captial of Anbar, some 70miles west of Baghdad, had been under ISIS control since May last year, but now only a handful of fighters remain in the city.

Civilians who have escaped the city say they had been without food for months and that only dogs now roam the streets of Ramadi, feeding on the bodies of dead ISIS militants.

According to various reliable sports websites , Chelsea are ready to land Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel this month. But he wont come cheap . The Blues are expected to pay a whooping £23million for the 26-year-old Belgian .

The Barclays Premier League champions held talks with him during the summer but the deal never went through . The reports also confirm that Witsel is keen to leave Russia during the January transfer window.

Chelsea will have to lock horns with London rivals Tottenham for his signature as Spurs see the long-legged midfielder as a fantastic addition to their squad .
